Software Development Manager
The Telmetrics development team is one of the best and fastest growing in the industry, and we want to invest heavily in the growth and development of our practices, systems, and programs. We are looking for a dedicated leader to focus and add horsepower and wisdom to our efforts.
In this critical leadership role in the Technology organization, reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, you will be the leading force in defining, delivering, operating, and evolving the foundational systems for a rapidly growing Development organization. You will be responsible for continuing the transformation of development processes and teams to drive flexibility and predictability, across existing and new product lines through close collaboration with quality, product management and other business and technology leaders.
At Telmetrics we are looking for someone who is not only a great developer in their own right, but someone who also has a passion for leading and mentoring other team members. You will be relied on to provide technical leadership on a daily basis, while also working with the management team to refine our agile processes in order to deliver great products incrementally. As such, the successful candidate will have a proven track record in building, leading and mentoring successful engineering teams working in an Agile development environment.
Your primary responsibility will be in supporting developers in their career development and ensuring they have the tools and resources to perform their job. Working with other leaders in the organization you will help to define career pathways and skills development for your team, and effect change through regular 1:1 with all direct reports, leading the team in objective setting, quarterly check-ins and annual performance reviews.
You will have hands-on involvement in activities such as Platform and Application Architecture, API Design, Development Best Practices, Prototyping, Security and System Integration. As a leader and mentor for a group of highly skilled developers, you must know what it takes to deliver quality, sustainable systems, and you will have the ability to teach others to do the same. Your passion for high-quality software development and the technology and knowledge that supports it will fuel the success of the team.
In coaching your team and the technology department deliver software in the most effective way possible you will be refining software development standards and practices, and participating in ongoing retrospectives to drive continuous improvement. Continually growing, learning, and sharing will be key as Telmetrics strives on pushing our boundaries, so documenting what you do and why it was done in such a way will be a key responsibility.
You will be tasked to be on the constant lookout for the best and brightest talent and recruit them to help continue to build out the best development team in the industry. Working with the senior-leadership team you will create and evolve a hiring process that can keep up with the demands of our growing business, while maintaining the attitude and culture that defines Telmetrics.
What will you bring to the team?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
- 10+ years of leadership experience with a proven track record of success in building, mentoring, and leading software development teams
- You are someone who enables and inspires their team to do their best work
- Demonstrated ability to harness the power of technology and people to accomplish big things
- Proven track record of implementing strategy, process improvement and quality management
- Strong Experience in establishing goals & milestones, technical project planning and resource management
- Excellent understanding of the Agile and Scrum methodologies with the ability to evaluate the quality of a team’s agile practices.
- Strong belief in accountability and leadership
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including ability to coach, mentor and develop team members
- Knowledge and experience of the B2B SaaS space would be an asset
- Some start-up experience preferred
- This position is based in Mississauga
- Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency
